I REALLY DO CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH. With politicians promising universal health care, and considering other promises of politicians, we need to become very serious in caring for our own health.
Politically furnished “health care” is really illness care, and it is usually pretty sick. Bureaucracies of government and insurance companies are impersonal and often are cumbersome. They are in between the doctor and the patient. No matter how well intentioned, they tend to impede proper care in many cases.
A personal friend who was a flight surgeon aboard the USS Randolph when I knew him years ago quit the Navy he loved because of what he considered over-regulation and the amount of administrative tasks he had to perform. He felt it interfered excessively with his practice of medicine. Fortunately there are many excellent physicians of all specialties who can contend successfully with such distractions and who do provide excellent medical care for our military personnel.

“But everyone gets sick sooner or later,” you say. Unfortunately, there is much truth in that statement, but does it have to be that way? My own experience and that of many others I know indicate otherwise.
My first three years were healthy, but at age four I contracted malaria. Although I had been fat, I was thin and sickly from then on. I was seriously ill only on occasion (measles, mumps, chicken pox, and whooping cough – the “usual childhood diseases” of that time). But I was never in robust health by any means. It was a pleasant surprise to me to be accepted by the Navy when I was 17, just six months before Pearl Harbor.
My health was quite good until an enemy mosquito got me on Guadalcanal, infecting me with “jaundice, acute, infectious” now called hepatitis. It took several months of hospitalization to get over that, but I never had a recurrence, which was also true of the malaria I later developed (another enemy mosquito). It is unusual to escape recurrence and I am thankful that I did.
My late beloved wife, Catherine, was not so fortunate. I want to tell you what happened to her and how we discovered aloe vera at a time she was in grave danger from a series of kidney infections that almost killed her. The effect of the aloe was almost miraculous, giving her another thirty years in much better health.
